A good PvP base does two things: it is hard to find, and hard to break. Most bases fail at one or both. Here is how to build something that actually holds.
Material tiers
Structures climb in durability: Thatch → Wood → Stone → Metal → Tek. - Thatch/Wood: starter only — they fall to basic tools and fire. - Stone: resists hands and most melee dinos, but not explosives. A fine early-PvP shell. - Metal: the real PvP standard. It only falls to explosives and the strongest siege dinos. - Tek: end-game, energy-shielded, and expensive. The top tier of defense. Build the strongest tier you can sustain. A metal base with no defenses still beats a tek base you cannot afford to repair.
Location is half the battle
- Hide it. Tuck bases into cliffs, caves, water, or terrain that breaks line of sight. A base nobody sees is a base nobody raids. - Avoid obvious spots. Famous build locations are scouted constantly. - Control approach angles. Pick terrain that funnels attackers into your turrets. - Have a second, secret stash far away holding your irreplaceable gear and podded dinos.
Layered walls (honeycombing)
Single walls are easy to blow through. Honeycombing — building a grid of small sealed cells around your core — forces raiders to spend explosives on layer after layer. - Double or triple your outer walls with air-gapped cells. - Every extra layer multiplies the cost to break in, which buys you time and burns their resources.
Turrets and auto-defense
Turrets are what punish raiders, especially during offline windows. - Auto Turrets and Heavy Turrets shred players and tanky soaker dinos; Tek Turrets add energy damage. - Plant Species X gives cheap early coverage and slows attackers. - Build turret towers with overlapping fields of fire so there is no safe angle. - Set turret targeting wisely (players, all, or whitelisted) and keep them loaded — an empty turret is a wall with extra steps. - Run them off a stable power grid (generators or Tek) and protect the power source itself.
Vaults, gates, and storage
- Vaults are high-HP loot boxes — spread your valuables across several, never one. - Behemoth gates secure dino parking and large entrances. - Keep your best dinos in cryopods, not standing in the open where a single raid clears them.
Design for the offline raid
On Official PvP there is no protection, so assume you will be hit while asleep. - Never log off with turrets unloaded. - Spread loot so one breach is not a total loss. - Use WarRoom alerts on your own server to learn your danger window and reinforce before it.
Hidden, layered, well-powered, and spread out — that is a base that wastes a raider's night instead of making it.
